FRA Audits

Our BAFE SP205 accredited Fire Risk Assessment Validators provide independent external audits of Fire Risk Assessments provided for the Responsible Person(s).

The audits can be focussed on Fire Risk Assessment reports, or the scope can be broadened to encompass a review of organisational fire safety management systems.

Our approach to audits is bespoke to each client but typically includes both desktop study and site inspection elements. Examples of key fire risk assessment audit criteria include:

  • Have suitably competent persons completed and validated the FRA report?

  • Has the Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) identified all significant fire hazards?

  • Has the FRA correctly identified the people at risk?

  • Has the FRA suitably evaluated the risks (based on assigning a hierarchy of controls)?

  • Have suitable and risk proportionate timescales been assigned to FRA actions?

  • Has the FRA suitably assessed the means of escape from the property?

  • Has the FRA suitably assessed passive fire protection measures?

  • Has the FRA suitably assessed fire detection and warning requirements?

  • Has the FRA suitably assessed fire-fighting equipment requirements?

  • Has the FRA suitably assessed the fire response policy appropriate to the property?

  • Has the FRA suitably assessed the needs of vulnerable people, for example the elderly, young children or those with disabilities not limited to Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans?

  • Has the FRA suitably assessed the provision information to employees and other people on the premises?

  • Does the FRA suitably assess the provision of fire safety training for staff?

  • Does the FRA suitably assess the use and condition of Gerda or other such fire brigade approved Secure Information Boxes (SIB Boxes)?

  • Does the FRA suitably assess arrangements for the testing and maintenance of services and fire equipment in place?

  • Have the FRA remedial actions been suitably assigned to contractors and/or staff for completion?

  • Has evidence been provided which confirms that the building services and fire equipment are included on a servicing/inspection programme, with service/inspection records up to date?

  • Have suitable arrangements for the inspection of fire doors throughout the property been implemented?

  • Do remedial works appear to have been completed to a satisfactory standard, and within the specified timeframe?

  • Has the FRA provided a commentary on the external wall system, and indicated whether an FRAEW is required?

  • Has the FRA given due consideration to the requirements recently introduced legislation, i.e. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 and the Building Safety Act 2002 where applicable, including the provision of information to residents and employees etc?

  • Has a suitable FRA review frequency/timeframe been recommended?

Following the audit a clear report and including risk priority ratings and an overall audit score is produced.

We also offer our auditing service for Fire Risk Assessors who request external quality assurance.
